St. Casimir Jagiellon

St. Casimir Jagiellon

The Peacemaker 1458–1484

Patronage Pacifism, Poland, Singing, & Lithuania

Feast Day March 4

Casimir was a Prince of Poland, son of King Casimir IV. During a siege of Hungary, he ordered the army to retreat without permission from military authorities. He was banished for three months because of his pacifism. He had a strong devotion to Mary, especially in singing Bernard of Cluny’s “Daily, Daily Sing to Mary” so much so that it became known as “St. Casimir's Hymn.”

Small Snippet

Saint Casimir, intercede to the Holy Ghost that in times of conflict, I may seek the best solution with a clear and level head.

Saint Casimir

Flowers

I was inspired by paintings of Casimir, and Lithuanian colors.

Inspiration

Rosary

I chose my rosary to exemplify Casimir’s devotion to Mary in singing his hymn.

I chose orchids to show Casimir’s pure heart in his refusal to participate in violence. The ragwort flower shows his humility even as living as a prince.
