Since the Roman emperor Maxentius demanded pagan sacrifices, Catherine spoke out. Since he couldn’t outwit her, he had his 50 best scholars debate her. Catherine convinced them to convert to Christianity. Tradition tells that with her arrest, she was to be executed with a spiked wheel. It shattered to her touch and fire fell to destroy it. Although miracles saved her, she was martyred.
