St. Denis of Paris

St. Denis of Paris

Headless Wanderer d. 258

Patronage Paris, Headaches, & Rabies

Feast Day October 9

Most of what is known comes from tradition, which popularized him in the Middle Ages. Denis was sent to present-day France to spread Christianity. Legend tells that after being beheaded at Montmartre in Paris, Denis's body rose, picked up his head, and carried it for a few miles. A Benedictine Abbey was founded in his honor where he was buried in Northeast Paris.
