St. Edward the Confessor

St. Edward the Confessor

Gentle King 1005–1066

Patronage Leadership Roles, Managerial Positions, Royalty, & England

Feast Day October 13

Edward was the only English king to be a saint. Legend tells that once, while Edward rode to a ceremony, a beggar approached him. Having no money, the king gave the beggar his ring. A few years later, two Englishmen were stranded in the Holy Land. The man who helped them also gave them the same ring to return to King Edward.

Small Snippet

Saint Edward, intercede to the Holy Ghost that when tempted by worldly desires, I may stay true to my faith, remembering what matters most.

Original Photo

This photo was taken at St. Edward the Confessor Church, Syosset, NY.

Normally, I avoid photography with the sun out, but in this case, I’m a fan of how the light casts over him. The challenge was choosing because each vantage point would have worked fine.

Since the ring miracle was most interesting to me of Kind Edward’s story, I went with the photo where I felt the ring stood out the most.

Zinnia Flowers

Zinnias symbolize everlasting friendship and are commonly given when a friend embarks on a trip. Since Edward left for his trip, I felt these flowers were the right fit.

I took these photos when I visited Ottawa, Canada during the summer of 2021.

Clematis Flower

The Clematis symbolizes ingenuity and cleverness. As the only English King to be canonized, it must be deducted that Kind Edward was clever. It is difficult to live a life for others when one has all the wealth they could possibly need.

River Gorge

I thought the texture of the bubbles and waves was a beautiful display of power. Since King Edward ruled England, I felt this natural power behind him would help express his authority, while the bubbles also represent his gentleness and humility during his reign.
