St. Francis Xavier
St. Francis Xavier
Empathic Missionary
1506–1552
Patronage Navigators, Foreign Missions, Learning a New Language
Feast Day December 3
Francis was one of the first Jesuit priests. His mission work didn’t come easy. Despite constant seasickness, he ministered to people aboard his ship on his way to Goa. He told off the King of Portugal for allowing violent missions After completing difficult, yet fruitful mission work in Japan, Francis concluded that a missionary must adapt to the culture and language of wherever one does mission work.
Small Snippet
Saint Francis, intercede to the Holy Ghost that if I ever may have the opportunity to share my faith, that I do so respectfully to the culture and beliefs of those I share with.
Prayer
Artistic Process
I found this bust in 2020 when I originally made him on public domain.
Bust
I took these outside my local church. They represent Francis’ love for Mary.
Roses
Hastas
These lilies represent Francis’ pure heart.
This flower fit nicely. The daintiness allows for the composition to be more dynamic. As was Francis’ approach to spreading faith.
Coastal False Asphodel
This symbolizes elegance. I think Francis carried himself in a way where his empathy and eagerness to understand the people he met in Japan greatly exemplifies proper evangelization methods.
Orchid
I made these in 2020 when I handdrew the banners for each saint. This was before I took photos of flowers too so my options were way more limited at that time. The current image retains many parts of which the first had.
