Feast Day September 1

Giles was a hermit, lived in a cave, and only had a red deer for a companion in a secluded forest. His only form of nutrients was milk from the deer. According to tradition, when a king sent hunters into the woods, they shot at Giles' deer. To save her, he shielded the doe with his hand, leaving him maimed.

Small Snippet

Saint Giles, intercede to the Holy Ghost that I may have a greater appreciation and concern for nature and any animals I come across.

Daisy Photo

This flower represents purity and innocence. I chose it to show the pure love Giles had for the doe that accompanied him to point of his sacrifice for her.

Original Statue

Saint Giles and child 1525 Southern Netherlands Belgian Belgium Museum statue. Public Domain reference.

Acadia Gardens

I took all sorts of nature photos in Acadia Park, and these leaves are specifically from Acadia Gardens. Since Giles lived in the woods it only seemed fitting to have leaves in his background.
