St. Josephine Bakhita

St. Josephine Bakhita

Tender Forgiver 1869–1947

Patronage Converts, Forgiveness & Survivors of Trauma

Feast Day February 8

Josephine was enslaved at a young age. The trauma of her abduction was so severe that she forgot her given name, and instead took the name her captors called her, Bakhita, meaning “fortunate.” After enduring the horror of slavery for years, she was introduced to Christianity in Italy. She converted and became a Canossian Sister, beloved by her community. Josephine even forgave her captors.

Small Snippet

Saint Josephine, intercede to the Holy Ghost that I may live a life of forgiveness, no matter how poorly I've been treated, that love will prevail over any pain.

Original

I originally thought it was a photo, but I suspect this was a painting of her.
