Our Lady of the Rosary

Our Lady of the Rosary

Mystical Rose c. 1st Century

Patronage The Rosary & San Nicolas, Argentina
Feast Day October 7

Tradition tells that Our Lady appeared to St. Dominic, giving him the rosary prayer. Speculation aside, St. Dominic was known for teaching the prayer. Over the centuries, Our Lady of the Rosary has endured. In 1983, Gladys do Motta, an ordinary mother and middle-aged worker, claimed to have seen visions of Mary in San Nicolas, Argentina. A shrine dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary was built there.

When I first envisioned this piece, I only imagined rose petals flying around Mary. With that idea, the rest of the image came together. I had no other ideas and somehow put this together in 2 days.

Rose Petals Flying

This flower was chosen to harken to the sorrows that Mary dealt with, which are devotional mysteries of the Rosary.

Asian Bleeding Heart

Tradition tells of Jesus died on a dogwood tree so these flowers represent the Mary had for Jesus.
