St. Giles the Abbot

Holy Vegetarian d. c. 710

Patronage Vegetarians, The Physically Handicapped, Outcasts, & Forests

Feast Day September 1

Fun Fact

Giles was a hermit, lived in a cave, and only had a red deer as his companion in a secluded forest, which was in present-day France. Legend tells when a king sent hunters into the woods, they shot at Giles' deer. To save her, he shielded the doe with his hand, leaving it deformed and grotesque.

Prayer

Saint Giles, intercede to the Holy Ghost that I may have a greater appreciation and concern for nature and the animals that surround me.

Amen.
